Data Analyst Job Description

Application Deadline:  21 September 2021

The Company

SUMS is an equal opportunities employer and we recognise the value that diverse backgrounds and experiences bring to our work and our organisation. Some identities are still typically under-represented in the workplace and we particularly encourage you to apply if that might be you.

Southern Universities Management Services (SUMS) is a growing not-for-profit organisation working within the Higher Education Sector. There are three specialist divisions within the organisation:

  • SUMS Consulting – a niche consultancy membership organisation with a strong reputation for the quality and integrity of its work, people and expertise, providing expert consultancy in all areas of university support and management
  • Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC) – a buying organisation for universities and further education colleges that develops and manages framework agreements
  • Procurement Shared Service (PSS) – provides specialist procurement support to universities, to help them secure the best value from their procurement activities.

The three divisions work together and share support services.

The Role

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Graduate Analyst to join our Business Intelligence Team.  We are looking for a graduate to support the work of SUMS through the provision of high quality, timely and accurate data, both quantitative and qualitative, and provide support for the wider provision of data and insight across the group.

The post holder will ensure that data contained within core systems is accurate and any associated processes are as streamlined and effective as possible to provide insight and analysis for colleagues and members. This will involve liaising with the wider SUMS team, including working collaboratively with SUMS: Consulting, Procurement, Finance, and Administration colleagues, and colleagues at our strategic partner LUPC and the other UK purchasing consortia.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to gain experience analysing and interpreting data as well as the opportunity to further develop their data visualisation and presentation skills. We are committed to supporting the development of our team.

The role will involve interaction with SUMS members and clients, suppliers and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will therefore be able to demonstrate excellent analytical, verbal and written communication and have a degree-level education in a relevant subject.

Working for SUMS

We value and promote equality, diversity, and inclusivity in our organisation, with fair access to opportunities, fair treatment, and fair outcomes for all.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a generous 30 days holiday (plus bank holidays), the opportunity to join the SUMS Group pension scheme, and life assurance.  Our full-time staff work 35 hours a week.  We have an agile workforce and are open to flexible working arrangements where appropriate.
