Helen’s professional experience is underpinned by an academic perspective on major challenges facing universities in the UK today. This combination gives her an ideal basis from which to balance theory and practice in her work, and helps her to identify answers to core questions in ways that are both strategic and practical.
Helen joined SUMS Consulting after a study break to complete a DPhil in Higher Education Policy. Her background is in communications – working first in the Government Information Service and then entering the higher education sector as Public Relations Officer at the University of Brighton. From there, she moved to the University of Oxford, where she was Director of Public Relations for six years, before moving to lead the undergraduate admissions team through a period of restructuring and the introduction of a new IT system.
Helen now combines consultancy work within higher education with research (principally in the areas of funding, fees and applicants’ decision-making) and teaching.
